What to expect during your PADI Open Water Scuba Diving course

You will complete the knowledge development part of the course using the online e-learning lite materials provided to you either at your home before you start your holiday or at the resort where you stay prior to your start date.

This will include completing knowledge reviews and quizzes and a final exam, all done online.

Quick review

Once we have established your completion of all the knowledge development sections and have passed the final exam, your instructor will conduct a quick review questionnaire with you to see that you have retained some of the important points of diving knowledge.

Your Instructor will also reinforce some important points such as the effects of pressure, safety principles and the buddy system.

You will then be introduce to your diving equipment and dive computer.

Shallow & Confined Water training

You will start in water that is deep enough for you to stand in with your head out of the water.

To begin with, we will ask you to simply breathe through the regulator and when you are ready we will ask you to kneel down under the water. At this time, we can start to practice equalizing your ears.

Your Instructor will demonstrate each skill, then you will copy and perfect the skills.

Amongst the first skills you will be mastering will be:

  • Regulator clearing

  • Regulator recovery

  • Mask clearing

  • Inflate and deflate the BCD at the surface (Buoyancy Control Device)

Open Water dives

Once you have mastered the dive skills we take you out on your first open water dives where you will put to good use those important skills in order to conduct a dive down to a maximum depth of 12m.

After 2 dives at 12m we can take you a little deeper to a maximum depth of 18m for your final 2 open water dives. (12m max for junior open water)

Certification

Once all the skills and dives have been completed and the instructor is happy with your standard he will sign you off as an Open water diver.

You will get an e-card sent to your email stating that you have passed the PADI Open water course which can be shown at any scuba diving school around the world and they will allow you to dive down to a maximum depth of 18m (12m for junior Open Water diver), with a certified buddy.
